We sell soil by the yard and haul it ourselves. That is the whole business, and it is small enough that the person who checks the batch is the person who takes your call.
City Soil Services is family-run. The people who screen the soil, load the trucks and answer the phone are the same people whose name is on the gate. Ask which mix suits your job and you will get a straight answer from someone who has loaded it.
Topsoil goes across the screen deck before it is sold, and mixes are blended to a set ratio rather than shovelled together. Every batch is checked for clay, silt, sand and pH, because two loads of "topsoil" from different yards are not the same product.
We haul our own material, up to thirty yards a load, across Edmonton and the surrounding area. That means the delivery window is ours to keep rather than a third party’s to miss, and it is why a load ordered today can be on your driveway tomorrow.
Put a sample in a jar of water, shake it, and leave it. Sand drops first, silt follows, and the clay hangs for hours. What settles out tells you whether a soil will drain, whether it will hold water, and whether it will set like concrete in August. It is slow and unglamorous, and it is why our topsoil is consistent load to load.

Yes. The shuttle floor trailer hauls up to 30 yards of topsoil per delivery, and we have loading ramps for conveyor trucks. Because every batch is tested, the topsoil you get in July matches the topsoil you got in May.
